On the Podcast: Creativity, Courage, and Kind Stories

Something exciting happened at the pond this week: I sat down for my very first podcast interview. I joined Daniel Kobryner for a warm, wide-ranging conversation about creativity, courage, and what it really takes to turn a small idea into something real — and I would love for you to listen along.

We talked about the fear that stops so many of us before we ever begin. Almost everyone carries a story, a drawing, a song, or a dream tucked away somewhere, and almost as often we talk ourselves out of it. The doubt gets loud. We tell ourselves we are not ready, not good enough, not the kind of person who makes things. I know that feeling well, because The Grumble-Gator’s Greatest Raft lived in my head for a long time before it ever lived on a page.

Kindness and creativity are cousins

The more we talked, the more I realized how closely the theme of the interview matches the theme of the books. Toby doesn’t win Barnaby over by being the biggest or the loudest. He wins him over by offering to build something together. Creativity works the same way. You don’t need to be the most talented person in the room; you need the courage to reach out, to try, and to keep going when it would be easier to swim away.

Turning an idea into a real thing

A lot of the conversation came back to one simple truth: ideas only matter once you act on them. A raft is just a pile of reeds until someone starts weaving. A story is just a daydream until someone writes the first line. If there is a project sitting quietly in the back of your mind, I hope this conversation gives you a little nudge to begin — badly, imperfectly, one reed at a time.

Thank you to Daniel for such a kind and thoughtful chat, and thank you for being here to share the moment with me. With the help of Heavenly Father, anything positive is possible — and I’m so grateful for every reader who has come along to Sunny-Stream Pond.
